In the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, this is really scary. Why can't they take the $50,000 in training costs and hire a professional police officer? We have police officers assigned to schools in MCPS, and I trust that they know what to do with the weapon they carry. I grew up in a time and a place where teachers could hit students. Seeing the principal walk the halls with a paddle was scary enough. I can't imagine putting guns in the hands of teachers! It's just too easy to act rashly out of misunderstanding or fear. Let's keep the focus on education not armed force.
