Bear Trapped, Relocated By Rockville Police, MD Natural Resources

ROCKVILLE, MD — Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Rockville City Police trapped the black bear that had been roam the Rockville area since last Wednesday night, according to a post on RCPD's official Twitter account.

The bear was then relocated outside of the city and Montgomery County, according to police.

RCPD first informed city residents Thursday morning that a black bear had been spotted in the Woodley Gardens and Great Falls Road area the night before. Additional sightings were reported in the King Farm and College Parkway area on Thursday night.

After the initial round of sightings, police notified MDNR, who agreed to trap and relocate the bear once its location had been identified.

About 2,000 adult and subadult black bears roam Garrett, Allegany, Washington, and Frederick counties, which is where most of the sightings are reported, according to MDNR.
