ROCKVILLE, MD — Whether you're in search of a place that had not only good beer, but a welcoming atmosphere on a dreary winter night or a sunny summer day, Rockville has some spots that come awfully close.
Whether you like ale, lager, a porter, or some other type of beer, we can all agree atmosphere, vibe and other intangibles contribute to the values of a nice beer spot. With that in mind, the region has had a beer renaissance as of late, with several establishments touting their craft brews, as well as the mix of domestic beers and imports.

Gilly’s Craft Beer & Fine Wine: 2009 Chapman Ave., Rockville. "Gilly's is the best I've found in terms of beer selection in the area. They have a lot of beers that no one else has," a reviewer said.
World Of Beer: 196B East Montgomery Ave., Rockville. Yelp user posted, "I get that the focus is the beer, but good beer (especially if there are pairings suggested) deserves, nay, demands good food. The offerings at WoB have the right intentions, but the execution tends to be underwhelming. ... it's one of the best places to find a brew for everyone on your roster - or to expand your own palate. There is a healthy (we're going with that) selection of beers on tap, and a much larger stock bottled (ciders, too). "
Dietle’s Tavern: 11010 Rockville Pike, Rockville. "This dive bar has no pretensions. It serves beer. Cheap beer. It is loud and dirty. The regulars are... regular. Friendly, but not too friendly," a customer said.
Finnegan’s Wake: 100 Gibbs St., Rockville. "Great atmosphere! Fun to bring your friends while out on a bar crawl. Wide variety of beer."
Plus some Bethesda offerings:
Tapp’d Bethesda: 4915 Saint Elmo Ave., Bethesda. Yelp says, "Service could be better. Drinks are great (obviously there's a ton of options) and I rather like the fries and beer cheese (pretty solid bar food)."
Villain & Saint: 7141 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda. Reviewer, "Great patio! Probably the best patio in Bethesda. The food is above bar standards, but not incredible. Live music is fun and the drinks are good. Good beer selection."
The Barking Dog: 4723 Elm St., Bethesda. Customer says, "They don't have the greatest selection of beers on draft at the 2nd floor bar so my beer of choice up there is yeung ling."
Tyber Bierhaus: 7525 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda. Yelp says, "Great local bar in Bethesda. It has outdoor seating which is nice during the summertime. Good selection of beers on tap - I tried the grapefruit beer which was crisp."
American Tap Room: 7278 Woodmont Ave., Bethesda. Comment, "My wife and I stopped by the American Tap Room in Bethesda on a rainy day for a couple of beersbefore going home. In the category of "bars", this place is not bad. I mean, its a bar! Its a good location, close to the metro, and close to shopping if thats your thing. They had Dale's Pale Ale on tap which was great!"
Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery: 7900 Norfolk Ave., Bethesda. "As far as bars in Bethesda go, Rock Bottom is one of the best. There's plenty of seating at and around the bar area."
Caddies On Cordell: Cordell Ave., Bethesda. Customer says, "Caddies is what it is : a sports bar for watching local college games and Redskins/Wizards, and to a lesser extent the Caps."
