Gravely Injured Biker Fled Traffic Stop Before Crash: Police (Update)

Montgomery County Police say a motorcyclist wouldn't stop for police before the crash and didn't have a valid license.

A motorcyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning in a Rockville collision wouldn’t stop when a patrol car tried to stop him just minutes before the crash, authorities say.

Montgomery County police are investigating the crash that also involved three cars just before 8 a.m. at Parkland Drive and Aspen Hill Road.

An officer in a marked police cruiser tried to stop the 2014 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Ronnie Stewart King Jr., 27, of the 9500 block of Beech Park Street in Capitol Heights. King was southbound on Connecticut Avenue north of Aspen Hill Road; his motorcycle did not have a license plate. King did not stop for police and turned onto Aspen Hill Road.

The officer reportedly lost sight of King and turned off his cruiser’s emergency equipment. Soon after, the officer came upon the collision involving King’s motorcycle and three other vehicles. Investigators say King’s motorcyle entered the intersection of Parkland Drive on a red signal and struck a 2005 Honda CR-V that had the right of way. The motorcycle then struck a 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan that was southbound on Parkland Drive and had a green signal. The Honda CR-V also struck the minivan and a 2014 Mazda 3; the Sienna and Mazda were both southbound on Parkland and had a green signal at the intersection.

King was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries; he remains in critical condition, police say. The driver of the Honda CR-V -- Mike Ying Chu, 47, of the 13200 block of Superior Street in Rockville -- was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
