Communicating With Your Aging Parent

Caregivers of aging parents and other adult children will benefit from the insights of author Barbara Kane. Join her at an upcoming free lecture on communicating with the elderly.

Are you an adult child coping with aging parents? Do you find you are frustrated, depressed, even angry sometimes? To witness your parents' struggles is hard enough. When they won't let you help them it can make you feel unappreciated, powerless.

Don't let your caregiving role ruin your relationships, even your health.

An expert in the field will give a lecture at Ingleside at King Farm, and the lecture will be free and open to the public. Barbara Kane, author of Coping With Your Difficult Older Parent: A Guide For Stressed Out Children, is speaking at a free seminar on Feb. 29, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Ingleside at King Farm, 701 King Farm Blvd., in Rockville.

Kane, a psychotherapist and care manager with more than 30 years of social work experience with adult children and their aging parents, will show you how to be a smooth communicator with your older parent(s). She emphasizes that while it’s rare for adults to change their ways late in life, the endless circle of anger, blame, guilt and frustration can be stopped.

Refreshments will be served and guests will receive a free copy of Coping With Your Difficult Older Parent: A Guide For Stressed Out Children while supplies last.

Opened in March 2009, Ingleside at King Farm is a not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community that holds the needs and wants of its residents front and center. The community offers a signature cultural arts program and offers amenities that appeal to the community’s intelligent, informed and engaged residents. When the needs or situations of residents change, a full continuum of care is available on site.

You may RSVP for the event by calling 240-499-9019.
