Deals, Deals, and More Deals

Almost all businesses run deals. You just have to know where to look for them.

Newsflash! There are more than just daily deals out there.

Ask anyone what first comes to mind when you say “deal sites” to them. “Well, there are a million of them,” is the answer you’ll get almost every time.

And the daily deal sites are the only deal sites that these same folks are thinking of when they say there are a million of them. In reality, while they may know five of the daily deal sites, maybe even 10, there are about 30 daily deal sites in DC, another handful of sites that aren’t true daily deal sites (like Yelp, Restaurant.com, Your Best Deals, and DoubleTakeDeals), a slew of print companies (like Valpak, The Merchandiser, and The Entertainment Book), as well as a bunch of other niche players that you’ve never heard of.

One of the biggest obstructions to seeing all of these deals is that every deal is a different email. Only the strong deal sites will survive in your email box even though some of the eventually discarded deal sites do produce a good deal or two now and then that you’re missing.

Sure you can look at the handful of “daily deal” aggregators, but daily deals are only a small fragment of all of the deals available at any given moment. And from what I’ve seen, they’re cluttered, not sorted very well, and can be a bit verbose for just a quick glance.

The common theme for all deal sites is that you're only seeing deals from businesses that choose to advertise.

In reality, almost all businesses run deals. They just don’t pay to have them advertised.

I’ll try to be a bit more diligent with my blog than in the past and I’ll share with you various ways to find lesser-known deals and the best ways to attack them.
