Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and number one reason for disability in the United States. A stroke, often called a “brain attack,” occurs when blood flow stops to a part of the brain. During a stroke, minutes matter and can make the difference between life and death. Signs of a stroke include numbness of the face, arms, or legs—especially on one side; loss of balance; trouble speaking or walking; difficulty seeing in one or both eyes; and severe headache.
When you or a loved one experience symptoms of a stroke, calling 911 is the quickest way to receive lifesaving treatment.

You are also invited to join us at Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland’s second annual Stroke Symposium on Friday, May 4. The symposium, titled “Stroke Management and Rehabilitation: From the Emergency Room to the Community,” will offer clinical professionals and community members a full day of presentations on various stroke topics.

The event will include a keynote address from a local 38-year-old stroke survivor who will discuss his experience of living through and recovering from a stroke. Presentations also will cover information on driving after stroke, emotional and behavioral changes following a stroke and support for stroke survivors and caregivers.
