VIDEO: Meet Your Neighbor: Roald Schrack
The civic activist and volunteer has lived in Rockville since 1959.

Mr. Roald Schrack was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Fort Meade, Florida. His mother passed away when he was five years old, and he was raised by his father. Schrack was sent to live with his grandparents in Indiana, where he lived on their farm until he moved to New York to start high school in 1940. He attended one of the finest schools in New York City and believes that his years there have enriched his life.
Schrack was drafted into the Army in 1945, and spent time after the war teaching in the service. He received his bachelor’s degree in physics in 1949, and soon after he earned his Master’s and PhD. He moved to Rockville in 1959, where he instantly felt a connection to the community.

“Rockville is a wonderful city that provides its citizens with benefits not found in a normal community,” said Schrack. “I have had disappointments aplenty, but the rewards far outweigh them.” Schrack is best known for his detailed analyses of the Rockville elections starting from 1985 to present, and was a part of the Charter Review Commission in 2002. He writes and publishes his opinions on blogs, testifies at Citizen’s Forums, and is actively involved in every facet of city life. Schrack’s contributions and dedication to the Rockville community are endless.
