The Latvian Museum is presenting a program about the defense of the capital of Latvia in January 1991 from the Soviet military forces that tried to occupy the city. People from throughout the country brought their tractors, trucks and pitchforks to erect barricades against the invaders. Their valor led to Latvia regaining its freedom and sovereignty and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Dainis Ivans, the leader of the Popular Front at the time, will recount his experience during this tumultuous time. Other eyewitnesses will also tell their stories.
