Richard Montgomery High School

Six13 is a groundbreaking, six-man a cappella vocal band that brings an unprecedented style and energy to Jewish music, with nothing but the power of the human voice. 
Juxtaposing the traditional and the contemporary, Six13 is anchored by a strong Jewish identity, fueled by soulful harmonies, intricate arrangements and their signature dynamic, full-band-like sound, and driven by a mission to connect Jews around the world with their heritage through music. The band is uniquely comprised of members from varied Jewish denominations and upbringings, creating an entertainment experience that has been universally acclaimed across the globe by Jewish organizations and individuals from equally varied backgrounds and generations. 

This year, Tikvat Israel Congregation will be featuring two concerts by the renowned a capella group, Six13 taking place on May 31 at Richard Montgomery High School. The first concert at 1:00 p.m. will be a performance focused on music for children under age eight followed later in the day at 4:00 p.m. with a full concert which will be enjoyed by people of all ages. Tickets for the children’s program will be $18, and for the full concert, tickets will cost $36 each.
The theme for the concert is “Sustaining and Enhancing Jewish Education.” These concerts, underwritten by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, have the potential to provide meaningful programs at Tikvat Israel.

Newmyer Flyer’s Everly Brothers Tribute has packed houses at venues like The Barns at Wolf Trap, Gypsy Sally’s, and The Birchmere since its debut in 2014. We decided this song-filled show — packed with classics that make you want to get up and dance — would be even more fun as An Everly Brothers Dance Party, and there’s no better place to launch it than Hank Dietle’s. Let’s rock!
A strong case can be made that the Everly Brothers are the most important vocal duo in rock history. The Beatles, along with countless other artists, have acknowledged the influence the Everlys had on their harmonies and vocal sound. The Everlys charted more than 20 Top Ten hits, including “Cathy’s Clown,” “Wake Up Little Susie,” “When Will I Be Loved,” “Price of Love,” “Walk Right Back,” “Gone Gone Gone,” “Claudette,” “All I Have to Do Is Dream,” “’Til I Kissed You,” “Love Hurts,” and “Bye Bye Love.” In 1986, the Everly Brothers were inducted into the inaugural class of the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame alongside Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and Buddy Holly.

Hank Dietle’s has been a labor of love for fans of the county’s oldest licensed bar for many years, serving up cold beer and warm memories since the 1916 store reopened as Hank Dietle’s Tavern in 1950. As development pressures were wiping out history along the pike, longtime fan Tony Huniak took over in 1990 to keep our beloved bar going. When the Quarry House burned in 2015, Tony welcomed Rockabilly Saturday Night to a new venue on the pike, carving out space for dancing in a homey social setting that proved a perfect fit for fans of live roots &amp; retro music. After Hank Dietle’s suffered a devastating fire in February 2018, fans rallied again to save the irreplaceable roadhouse. Chantal “Kiti” Gartner set up a Go Fund Me website to help the out of work employees and teamed with Mark Segraves and others to organize a benefit concert to launch a reconstruction effort. Thanks to their tireless efforts and many fans who contributed, the roof was repaired, the porch rebuilt, critical electrical work done, and interior walls rebuilt. Building on their efforts, three devotees of the historic tavern, Tommy Bowes, Sarah Bonner, and Alan Kresse, along with Gina Cocco, Lisa White, and Tom Helf, teamed up to complete work on the interior, recreate our beloved “Hank Dietle’s Cold Beer” sign, and get the institution rolling again. All are long-time supporters of Maryland’s live music and dance scene—musicians, promoters and entrepreneurs dedicated to ensuring that Hank Dietle’s rides again.
