Tribute to Robbie White Concert
We’re dedicating this show to our longtime friend Robbie White, who is dealing with serious health issues. For decades, Robbie has been one of the most stalwart supporters of homegrown DC music, and there was never a gig by such bands as The Slickee Boys, The Dynettes, Switchblade or my own band, Bound For Glory, where Robbie was not in attendance. When Maura and I first started playing together, Robbie was our first fan, and in fact he was oftentimes our&nbsp;only&nbsp;fan at shows in the early days. Having grown up like I did, listening to WHFS, he has carried on the great legacy of DC progressive radio. He is truly dedicated, so we’re dedicating this show to him.
Songwriting husband-and-wife duo Pete and Maura Kennedy bring their “Smoketree” album release tour to Hank Dietle’s Tavern for their debut appearance! With more than two dozen albums, years on the road with Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra, and a global touring history that spans the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe, The Kennedys deliver energized folk-rock packed with hooks, harmony, and heart. “Smoketree” is filled with brand-new originals that take on environmental concerns, social upheaval, and the search for peace—always with their trademark tone of hope and uplift. • David has played in Goin' Goin' Gone for more than 40 years. What you might not know is that he and Russ Beeker had a duo called The Beverly Brothers that played at Kramerbooks for more than a decade. David's solo act includes a few GGG tunes but mostly it's songs that he wrote that the band never played, songs that move inside his soul, songs he sings to his living room walls.&nbsp;
• Skip played a lot of drums and guitar in his life until having an epiphany about music. He had an experience of knowing he could play the blues, and he just had to do it. He says surrendering in music is being drawn to play and being able to say, "I am a musician." Then, you just go with what you play in the moment. He also says, "Music is available to everybody." And it's important to just start, and you can learn to play music like being in a conversation.

Hank Dietle’s has been a labor of love for fans of the county’s oldest licensed bar for many years, serving up cold beer and warm memories since the 1916 store reopened as Hank Dietle’s Tavern in 1950. As development pressures were wiping out history along the pike, longtime fan Tony Huniak took over in 1990 to keep our beloved bar going. When the Quarry House burned in 2015, Tony welcomed Rockabilly Saturday Night to a new venue on the pike, carving out space for dancing in a homey social setting that proved a perfect fit for fans of live roots &amp; retro music. After Hank Dietle’s suffered a devastating fire in February 2018, fans rallied again to save the irreplaceable roadhouse. Chantal “Kiti” Gartner set up a Go Fund Me website to help the out of work employees and teamed with Mark Segraves and others to organize a benefit concert to launch a reconstruction effort. Thanks to their tireless efforts and many fans who contributed, the roof was repaired, the porch rebuilt, critical electrical work done, and interior walls rebuilt. Building on their efforts, three devotees of the historic tavern, Tommy Bowes, Sarah Bonner, and Alan Kresse, along with Gina Cocco, Lisa White, and Tom Helf, teamed up to complete work on the interior, recreate our beloved “Hank Dietle’s Cold Beer” sign, and get the institution rolling again. All are long-time supporters of Maryland’s live music and dance scene—musicians, promoters and entrepreneurs dedicated to ensuring that Hank Dietle’s rides again.
