Acclaimed vocalist Holly Shockey joins the Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio for an evening of exceptional jazz. A musical-theatre performer, educator, and lead soprano with the Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet, Holly is a Syracuse University Musical Theatre graduate and a 202020-year veteran of The United States Army Band. Her international career has included the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the White House, performances for U.S. troops overseas, and appearances alongside Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Tom Jones, Martina McBride, Bono, and others.
Led by guitarist Rick Whitehead, the trio features bassist John Previti and drummer Nick Ruggieri—three master musicians with deep roots in the Washington, D.C., jazz community. Formed in 199419941994, shortly after the passing of legendary guitarist Danny Gatton, the group is celebrated for its virtuosic playing, tight interplay, and soulful swing.
The trio has performed at Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the Smithsonian Jazz Club. Their debut recording, Live in Captivity, earned the 199819981998 WAMA Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, followed by Live in Captivity, Again and So There We Were…
