Young Fresh Fellows

w/Clem Fandango

More than four decades in, the Young Fresh Fellows are still moving forward. Loft isn’t a nostalgia piece—it’s a snapshot of a band creating in real time, driven by instinct, chemistry, and a refusal to stand still.
The album came together during the band’s 40th anniversary tour for their debut The Fabulous Sounds of the Pacific Northwest. With John Perrin (NRBQ) stepping in on drums, the lineup of Scott McCaughey, Jim Sangster, and Kurt Bloch hit a new stride onstage—looser, sharper, and fully alive.
On a rare day off in Chicago, the band walked into Wilco’s Loft studio with no gear and no real plan. Eight hours later, they walked out with a full album. Most of the songs were cut in one or two takes, built from rough ideas and finished on the spot. The result is immediate, unfiltered, and unmistakably the Fellows.
Loft has since taken on a second life, expanding beyond that raw session into something more cinematic, with new arrangements, guest appearances (including Neko Case, Peter Buck, and members of Wilco and The Decemberists), and a wider sonic palette. Across both versions, the spirit is the same: spontaneous, collaborative, and open to wherever the music leads.
Musically, the record stretches from punchy garage rock to piano ballads, jazz-tinged turns, and deeply personal songwriting. McCaughey’s writing remains as sharp and curious as ever, while Bloch’s guitar work—recorded under less-than-ideal conditions—stands among his best. Perrin’s drumming adds a fresh dynamic, giving the band new rhythmic space to explore.
At its core, Loft captures what the Young Fresh Fellows have always done best: following the moment. No overthinking, no looking back—just a great band, in a room, making something happen.

Clem Fandango

After playing in local bands The Neighbors, Super Jones Affair, and Mother May I in the late 1900s, sharing stages with NRBQ, Roy Orbison, Paul Westerberg, Smashing Pumpkins and Marshall Crenshaw among others, accused singer songwriter and former Zamboni driver Peter Gilstrap left the area at sundown for the deserts of the west.
Now, he has returned to the DMV with a burning desire to play music at any cost. So far, it’s been well over $200.
Joined by the formidable talents of Bill Williams, Edward O’Connell, Scott McKnight and Antoine Sanfuentes—veterans of Last Train Home, Jelly Roll Mortals, Dede and the Do-Rights, Little Red & the Renegades, the Half Smokes and Kevin Johnson and the Linemen—Clem Fandango was born.
It’s an earworm buffet of Gilstrap’s original songs inspired by the work of Nick Lowe, George Jones, Burt Bacharach, The Move, The Replacements, and pre-mustache Beatles. Get it while it’s hot.
Anecdotally, Peter and Scott, while in The Neighbors, played with Young Fresh Fellows in the late 80's in DC. This reunion should prove to be a blast and oh, the stories they might tell!

Featuring Lynn Kasdorf, Gary Ferguson, Mark Noone, Moe Nelson, and Ben Holmes, this accomplished five-piece delivers hot swing, twangy guitar, steel-soaked melodies, and a seriously danceable groove.
Founded in 1988, the award-winning group has built its sound around a distinctive Hawaiian accent, weaving together swing, blues, country, jazz, rockabilly, and Hawaiian standards with infectious energy and seasoned musicianship.
Come out for an evening of island-flavored grooves, rootsy swing, and rockin’ rhythm with one of the DC area’s most original live bands.

Explore a quarter century of change along Rockville Pike
Chances are you have driven on Rockville Pike, to do errands, shop, or go to a restaurant. Have you ever passed a pile of rubble and wondered what used to be there?
Twenty-five years ago, the Park Inn motel, the Allied Plywood lumber yard, and the White Flint Mall bordered the Pike. Since then, Mid-Pike Plaza became Pike & Rose, and Fuddruckers became Tesla. Join Peerless Rockville as we welcome local resident Mollie Habermeier sharing before and after photographs from the last 25 years of these places and others. See what has changed and what hasn’t in this illustrated presentation.

Shakespeare made over 2,300 references to love, lovers or beloved within the entire body of his work. Just as every play has a banquet scene, surely there are as many love scenes. Right? That’s what one would think. The truth is that actual love scenes as we think of them today are few and far between, which begs the question, what is The Bard’s relationship to love? And does his version of love truly stand the test of time?
Love’s the Thang! is a blend of Shakespearean love scenes paired with foundational Black music, spoken word, and poetry. It’s the ultimate Shakespearean love remix that tries to define the thing that even Shakespeare could never quite wrap his head around…love.
Featuring Music and Poetry by DJ Renegade, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Kai Davis, Mona Lake Jones, Maya Angelou, LL Cool J, and Etta James.Music arranged by Hurt City DJ’s.
