Carjacking Charges Levied Against 2 Montgomery County Men: Police
Montgomery County Police arrested two men they say were involved in the Dec. 19 carjacking on North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Police detectives arrested 38-year-old Darrell Amos Barnes Jr. of Rockville in connection with a carjacking that occurred last month in Gaithersburg, according to a release.
Officers from Montgomery County and the Gaithersburg Police Department responded around 6:45 p.m., on Dec. 19, for the report of a carjacking in the 200 block of North Frederick Avenue. An investigation revealed that one suspect knocked on the window of a 2012 Honda Insight and told the victim to get out, according to police. Once the victim complied, a second suspect drove off with the car and the first suspect walked away.
Police identified Barnes as one of the suspects in the case and were able to arrest him on the same day. He was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where police charged him with conspiracy carjacking and resisting arrest. After receiving a $10,000 unsecured personal bond, Barnes was released.

On Dec. 27, police arrested 35-year-old Marcus Antonio Umanzor of Gaithersburg after police identified him as the second suspect in the case. He was charged with carjacking and conspiracy carjacking, according to police. Umanzor was released after he posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond.
