Child Dies in Car Crash, Fire: Police

Montgomery County authorities are asking for witnesses to contact them who saw the early-morning accident.

A boy died early Tuesday in a car crash and fire off Route 370 in Gaithersburg, say authorities, and a woman is in the hospital with burns.

Montgomery County Police say the boy was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle, which was reported on fire about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday off the road near the westbound lanes of Sam Eig Highway (Route 370) and Fields Road.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel saw a woman who was injured with the vehicle; she told first responders there was another person in the vehicle. Rescuers attempted to force open the vehicle, breaking glass, and then extinguishing the fire, but were unable to remove the victim from the vehicle.
