Former Rockville City Police Officer Sentenced In Federal Court On Child Porn Charges
A former Rockville City Police officer and U.S. National Guardsman was sentenced Friday for possessing and sharing child pornography.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Daniel Morozewicz, a former Rockville City Police officer and member of the U.S. Army National Guard, was sentenced Friday in federal court in Baltimore for possession of child pornography, according to a release.
U.S. District Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher sentenced Morozewicz to 42 months in federal prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. As part of a plea agreement, he was also ordered to pay $14,000 in restitution.
The Frederick, Maryland, resident admitted in court that he received, possessed, and distributed child pornography on the BitTorrent file sharing network from September 2020 to January 2021, according to court documents.

During that period of time, Morozewicz, who was then employed as both a Rockville City Police officer and as an Army National Guardsman, repeatedly distributed child pornography to undercover law enforcement officers, according to court documents. Investigators determined that the child pornographic files were downloaded and shared from Morozewicz's IP address.
Federal law enforcement officers executed a series of search warrants on Morozewicz's home, vehicle, and person on March 5, 2021, according to court documents. Among the items that were seized was a smartphone that had recently been factory reset and erased.

Morozewicz admitted in court that he had been tipped off the day before that federal law enforcement wished to interview him. He said that he'd also discarded his computer, which was seen as an effort to impede the investigation, according to court documents.
Law enforcement officers seized multiple electronic devices from Morozewicz's home and vehicle. When the devices were forensically examined, investigators found more than 12,300 depictions of child pornography, including over 200 images involving the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers, according to court documents. More than 90 of the images involved sado-masochistic conduct.
