Commuter Alert: Shady Grove Metro Elevator Shut Down Until October

Rockville, MD — Commuters who use the Red Line should know that the elevator between the east side parking lot and kiss & ride and the mezzanine at the Shady Grove Metro Station is out of service for major rehabilitation.

Work began Wednesday and is slated to run through October, Montgomery Community Media reports.

WMATA officials say the construction project will improve reliability by replacing and upgrading all major components of the elevator, including a new passenger cab, controls, motors and safety devices.

During this time, shuttle bus service will be provided upon request by asking any station manager or by calling 202.962.1825. Or, commuters can take Metrobus routes Q1, 2, 5 and 6 for travel between Shady Grove and Rockville.

Here's the WMATA schedule for work to Red Line tracks:

• August 1 - 7: Continuous Single Track, Takoma to Silver Spring
• August 9 - 18: Continuous Single Track, Shady Grove to Twinbrook
• October 10 - November 1: Line Segment Shutdown, Fort Totten to NoMa
