Cops Still Investigating 1971 Killing Of A MOCO Police Captain
Montgomery County Police said they are still investigating the shooting of Police Captain James Tappen Hall on Oct. 23, 1971.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Police are still investigating the 1971 killing of a Police Captain at a country club in Rockville. Montgomery County Special Deputy Sheriff, Captain James Tappen Hall was shot on Oct. 23, 1971 and died in the hospital on Oct. 26, 1971.
"At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, witnesses entered the Manor Country Club in the 1400 block of Carrolton Road and reported that there was a man lying face down in the south east parking lot with trauma to his head," the police department said in the release. "Police and Fire Rescue responded and discovered Captain Hall suffering from a gunshot wound to his head."
Police said on the 50th anniversary of the shooting that it is still an active homicide investigation, and asked anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Division - Cold Case Unit at 240-773-5070.
