Correctional Officer Charged With Sexual Assault Of Inmate In Montgomery County

A Montgomery County Correctional Officer has been charged with sexual assault after he admitted to assaulting a female inmate Tuesday.

CLARKSBURG, MD — A Montgomery County Correctional Officer has been charged with sexual assault of an inmate at the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation facility in Clarksburg, police announced Wednesday.

Olukunle A. Oyekanmi, 41, was charged with one count each of second-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, sexual contact with an inmate and malfeasance in office after he admitted to sexually assaulting a female inmate. He was released after posting a $20,000 bond, police said.

Investigation revealed that Oyekanmi entered a female victim's cell at about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday and allegedly sexually assaulted her, police told Patch. These criminal violations are alleged to have occurred while Oyekanmi was on duty.

Detectives reviewed jail video surveillance that showed Oyekanmi enter the victim’s cell and remain inside of the cell for the period of time the victim stated the assault occurred, police said.

During an interview with detectives, Oyekanmi admitted to sexually assaulting the victim in the cell. Police arrested Oyekanmi at his residence Tuesday evening and transported him to the Central Processing Unit for processing.
