Gaithersburg Economic Development, the State of Maryland’s Department of Commerce and the Technology Development Corporation of Maryland (TEDCO) helped organize this event.

Top cybersecurity experts from the University of Maryland's Center for Health and Homeland Security and Maryland-based cybersecurity firms have banded together to help protect local businesses from hacking. That was the hot topic at a panel discussion yesterday at Rio sponsored by local and state economic development professionals. The event was held at Gaithersburg Launch Workplace.

Major themes included the importance of protecting clients and the supply chain. In the words of one panelist, "You're only as strong as your weakest link." Panelists said cybersecurity protocol requires continual scrutiny and updating.

The panel discussion from 3:30 until 5:00 and networking with wine tasting from 5:00 until 6:30.

Ed Obendorfer and Brendan Salvo, both from Blackpoint Cyber, each won a bottle of premium wine from Knob Hall Winery during the networking/wine tasting reception conducted by Laura Rhode of Brand Market--both bottles rated at 92 points and Gold Medal Winners of the MD Governor’s Cup.
