Delays, Road Closures For Fallen Police Officer's Funeral Service
Montgomery County is honoring Officer Kyle Olinger's life and dedication to the police force on Wednesday.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Family members, first responders, and residents will gather in Montgomery County on Wednesday to pay tribute to fallen police officer Kyle Olinger.
Fifteen years ago, Olinger was conducting a routine traffic stop when an 18-year-old shot him in the neck. The paralyzed officer was confined to a wheelchair, but died on April 18, 2019 as a result of his injuries, according to the governor's office.
Montgomery County is honoring Olinger's life and dedication to the police force on Wednesday.

The Celebration of Life Service, as its called, is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. in Rockville Town Square. MCP motor officers and marked police cruisers will escort Olinger's ashes to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney.
Officials are telling motorists to except delays.

Here's the schedule for The Celebration of Life Service:
- A funeral procession, which includes MCP motor officers and marked police cruisers, will escort Officer Olinger's ashes from the Rockville Town Square beginning at 10 a.m. The procession will conclude at to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School at approximately 10:45 a.m.
- The celebration of life service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Attendees will be arriving early at the Our Lady of Good Counsel High School (located at 17301 Old Vic Boulevard in Olney). This will impact the morning commute.
- From approximately 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be heavier than normal traffic from Rockville Town Square to eastbound Norbeck Road (MD 28) to northbound Georgia Avenue (MD 97) to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Traffic on Olney Sandy Spring Road (MD 108) will experience significant congestion between 10 a.m. until noon.
