Dog Rescued from I-270 Rush Hour Mishap

Star bolted from a vet's office and was hit by a car on the interstate, but two Rockville Police officers saved her life.

A dog that fled a veterinary appointment Tuesday in Rockville found itself in the middle of morning rush hour on the interstate before two police officers rescued the injured canine.

The Rockville City Police Department received numerous calls during Tuesday morning’s rush hour for reports of a dog running loose on Interstate 270. Authorities say the panicked pup, Star, was hit by a vehicle.

Rockville Police Corporal Ed Vallejo and Officer Seth Creel arrived on the scene and rushed the dog to a veterinary hospital.

The officers on Wednesday visited the recuperating dog, which is being treated for a fractured hip. The department said on Facebook that Star is expected to make a complete recovery and will be able to go home to her family soon.

Bethesda Magazine reports Star was at a veterinary clinic in the Woodley Gardens shopping center near I-270 when she escaped. Police found the injured canine near the West Montgomery Avenue exit of I-270.
