Driver Dies After Rockville Pike Collision: Police

The unidentified motorist rear-ended a Ride On bus Saturday night near Twinbrook Metro, say Montgomery County police.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County police detectives are investigating a fatal collision Saturday night on Rockville Pike in which a car rear-ended a bus. The car's driver was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, the police said.

Police officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded at about 8:30 p.m. to the accident at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Halpine Road, near the Congressional Plaza shopping center and the Twinbrook Metro station.

The police determined that a Montgomery County Ride On bus, which was northbound on Rockville Pike, had stopped for a red light at Halpine Road when it was struck in the rear by a 1995 Honda Accord, according to a police statement. Three passengers were on the bus at the time of the collision, the police said. The passengers and bus driver were uninjured.

The police said the name of the accident victim would be released after his family has been notified. Detectives with the Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating the accident.
