Election Workers, 'Future Vote' Members Sought in Montgomery Co.

Students, registered voters and bilingual people are needed to work the polls in Montgomery County's November election.

ROCKVILLE, MD — What better way to teach youngsters about elections than by throwing them into the mix? Registered voters and students from sixth through 12th-grade are needed to work the polls and serve in the "Future Vote" program in November.

Future Vote students will serve as election day student aides during the 2018 gubernatorial general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Students may also help the board of elections with a variety of tasks leading up to election day.

Students 16-years-old or older are eligible to register to vote and serve as election poll workers. Each minor must demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the Maryland State Board of Elections, that they meet all qualifications for registration in the State. Students serving as election workers may choose to earn 25 Student Service Learning credits in lieu of the stipend.

To help reach all eligible voters, workers who speak multiple languages are also needed. Registered voters who are fluent in both English and Spanish are needed in each polling place to meet the requirements of Section 203 of the 1975 Voting Rights Act which stipulates that bilingual Spanish speakers be available at the polling places.
