Elrich Asking Amazon About Fulfillment Center In Montgomery Co

Amazon is no longer building a fulfillment center in Prince George's County. Does Montgomery County have a shot?

ROCKVILLE, MD — Now that Amazon has backed out of building a fulfillment center in Prince George's County, will the company consider moving the warehouse to Montgomery County? That's what County Executive Marc Elrich is trying to figure out.

The Democrat first raised the possibility of a deal with Amazon during a online forum with residents on Monday. That afternoon, a resident asked Elrich if the county council had plans to bring Amazon to Montgomery County. The exchange can be found below:

Audrey Ramey from Rockville: Amazon has pulled out of the deal to build its fulfillment center in Prince George's County. Governor Hogan still wants to see the project completed in Maryland. Does the Council have any plans to encourage Amazon to build in Montgomery County? If so what is the time frame?

In an interview with Patch, county spokesman Ohene Gyapong could not confirm whether Elrich has reached out to Amazon.

He just wants to "make a phone call to see what is in the art of possible," said Gyapong.
