Scottish Festival - Rockville High School

The Rockville High School Pipe Band presents the 44th Annual National Capital Area Scottish Festival on May 12, 2012.  This annual fundraising concert showcases an
authentic program of Scottish Pipe Bands, piping and drumming, and traditional Irish and Scottish dancing. 

The Festival will take place at Rockville High School, 2100 Baltimore Road, Rockville, MD 20851, on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m in the gymnasium,  Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $1 for children.     The doors will open at 1:00 p.m. for a Scottish bake sale, raffles, silent auctions, and children’s activities. All proceeds will benefit the Rockville High School Pipe Band, a self supporting extra-curricular activity.

The Festival is hosted by the Rockville High School Pipe Band. The Rockville High School Pipe Band was originally formed in 1961 at Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland. The Pipe Band was the first and only high school pipe band in the state of Maryland. The Band was based at Peary High School until 1984, when the
school was closed.  In the 1984-1985 academic year the Pipe Band moved to Rockville  High School and has
remained there since. Members of the band range in age from 11 to 18, and many move into college and adult pipe bands upon graduation. The Pipe Band members
compete regularly in individual competitions, often walking away with top
trophies.

This year’s performers at the festival include the world-renowned Grade 1 City of Washington Pipe Band, MacMillan Pipe Band, MacMillan Birtles Memorial Pipe
Band, Rockville High School Pipe Band, Scottish country dancing will be performed by the Scottish Country Dance Society of Washington, and Irish dancing by the
Culkin School of Irish Dance.
