At the F. Scott Theater in March: Intrigue, Shakespearean Ballet and Celebrating Six Decades
Victorian Lyric Opera Company, Rockville Civic Ballet and the Rockville Concert Band welcome the community to their performances in March.
From the City of Rockville: The Victorian Lyric Opera Company presents Jaques Offenbach's "La PƩrichole" in English, at 8 p.m., March 3-4, and at 2 p.m., March 5. To suit the whim of the viceroy -- a great man for the ladies -- an attractive street-singer (La PƩrichole) is brought to court and made a countess by the simple expedient of marrying her to a newly titled "count," who is really her street-singer partner and lover. Good comedy character parts, engaging romantic intrigues, colorful costumes and delightful music, including the celebrated "Letter Song." Ages 13-plus. Tickets cost $28 for adults; $24 for seniors, and $20 for students.
Rockville Civic Ballet presents Shakespeare's comedy, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," set to music by Mendelssohn, and his tragedy, "Macbeth," set to music by Khachaturian, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 18, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 19. Tickets are $17, adults; $13, children (12 years old and under); $13, seniors (60 years old and older). Group rates: $16.50 for seven or more adult tickets; $12.50 for 10 or more children/senior tickets.
Under the direction of John Saint Amour, the Rockville Concert Band will celebrate 60 years of the band's history with a special 60th Anniversary Concert, 3 p.m., Sunday, March 12. The concert is free; a $5 donation is suggested. For information, call 240-314-8681 or visit here.
