Fire Rips Through Rockville Day Care, Swim Club Over Weekend
A two-alarm fire broke out at the Woodley Gardens swim club and the Georgetown Hill Early School in Rockville on Sunday evening.

ROCKVILLE, MD — About 100 firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire that broke out at a swim club and day care in Rockville on Sunday.
Montgomery County fire officials said the blaze broke out at the Woodley Gardens swim club and the Georgetown Hill Early School in the 800 block of Nelson St. around 8:15 p.m. No one was injured in the fire.
Video posted by Pete Piringer, spokesman for the county's fire and rescue service, showed plumes of smoke coming from the fire-scorched building.

It is not immediately known what started Sunday's blaze, which caused significant damage to the building.
Peter Cromwell, CEO of Georgetown Hill, posted about the fire on Facebook early Monday morning.

"It saddens me to report that our school has been struck by fire this evening, January 27th," Cromwell wrote. "At this time, we do not know the cause of the fire or the extent of damage, but it does appear to be significant."
Piringer said an investigation is under way and estimated the fire damage at $750,000.
