Full Rockville Fourth of July Weekend Schedule of Events

The city has a new venue for music and fireworks. Plus, what's open and closed on July 3 and 4 for the holiday.

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration is moving to Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm. City officials say the new location offers better spectator viewing and ample and convenient parking as well as a larger fireworks display.

Rain date is Sunday, July 5.

Schedule of Events

  • The Nighthawks will perform on the Stars Stage at 7 p.m.
  • The Fugitive Brass Quintet play on the Stripes Stage at 7 p.m.
  • Rockville Concert Band on the Stripes Stage at 8 p.m.
  • Mayor and Council Greeting from the Stars Stage at 8:45 p.m.
  • Fireworks Display at the Football Field at *9:15 p.m. *The football field is closed to spectators.

  • No barbecuing or open flames allowed at the event site
  • Recycle and garbage bins are located throughout the event
  • Lost children should be taken to the first aid tent located along Piccard Dr.

Viewing Areas
The entertainment and fireworks can be viewed from the park grounds. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and food and beverage.

Parking
Parking is available for free in lots along Shady Grove Road, Gaither Road and Choke Cherry Road. These lots are conveniently located near the event site. There is no parking available in the King Farm neighborhood.

Please use main roads such at Route 355, Gude Drive, and Shady Grove Road to access these parking lots. There will be ample signage directing people to public parking. View the public parking map.

Food and Beverage
Food and beverage will be available for purchase from several food vendors. Guests may also bring their own food and beverage. Please note that there is no barbecuing or open flames allowed on the event site.

Peace Gathering
Celebrate Mattie J.T. Stepanek’s 25th birthday and his legacy of peace at the Peace Gathering on Saturday, July 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the Peace Garden area of Mattie J.T. Stepnake Park, located at 1800 Piccard Drive in Rockville. View additional information.

What’s Open and What’s Closed

Rockville City Hall will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Most other Rockville facilities will operate as usual.

Parking fees at city-owned meters will be suspended on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

The Rockville Senior Center will be closed Friday, July 3 and will open for its normal hours on Saturday, July 4.

Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers and Croydon Creek Nature Center will open on their normal schedules on Friday, July 3 and will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center will operate on a normal summer schedule on Friday, July 3 and Sunday, July 5 and will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. Summer hours for individual swim center facilities can be found at www.rockvillemd.gov/swimcenter.

F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and the box office will be open for its normal hours (2-7 p.m.) on Friday, July 3 and will be closed on Saturday, July 4. Tickets are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.rockvillemd.gov/theatre.

Rockville Civic Center Park offices, including Glenview Mansion and the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

Recycling, yard waste and refuse collection will not be affected as they are not normally collected on Fridays.
