Governor Orders I-70 and I-270 Closed for Plowing
Wrecks and stuck vehicles have made I-270 and I-70 nearly impassable; only emergency vehicles are allowed on the interstates overnight.

ROCKVILLE, MD — As stuck cars make clearing snow-clogged roads a challenge, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered the immediate closure of two interstates.
All northbound and southbound lanes of I-270 – 35 miles from I-81 in Washington County to the Baltimore Beltway -- are closed until 7 a.m. Also, I-70 is closed from the Baltimore Beltway, or I-695, to I-81 in Washington County.
Sunday to all drivers except for emergency personnel. The closures follow snow-related traffic incidents involving several tractor-trailers and other vehicles on both interstates.

“As the state continues to fiercely fight Snow Storm Jonas, I want the citizens of Maryland to know that the state is taking every step necessary to ensure their safety,” Hogan said in a news release. “Closing I-70 and I-270 will give us the time needed to deploy all our resources to clear these essential interstates as quickly as possible as we prepare to get our transportation network back up and running.”
Hogan also reiterated that Maryland residents should stay off local roads as well as the interstates.
