Hazmat Crew, Bomb Squad Swarms Neighborhood

An unknown chemical odor at a Rockville house prompted the call for experts to check it out.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A neighborhood was filled with firefighters and responders in hazardous materials suits Tuesday night after a report of an odor.

Rockville Police were called to a house in the 1900 block of Valleystream Drive to check on the welfare of a person. Officers detected an unknown chemical odor and called for the county’s Hazmat crew and the Montgomery County bomb squad.

Crews located insecticides and other household items in the house; no explosives were found.

Authorities determined that there was no danger to the neighborhood.
