JSSA Announces Winter/Spring 2015 Workshops and Groups

JSSA's (Jewish Social Service Agency) Winter/Spring 2015 Workshops and Groups are open for enrollment with details available online.

jSSA’s (Jewish Social Service Agency) Winter/Spring 2015 Workshops and Groups are open for enrollment with details available online. These new programs provide the opportunity for anyone in the community struggling with a wide range of learning, behavioral, emotional and physical challenges to learn from JSSA’s highly skilled professionals and to share with others who are facing similar challenges. Limited space is available for some workshops and groups.

Programs include:

  • Children of Divorce Support Group

This group will be a safe place for those whose parents are in the process of separation and/or divorce to explore their feelings and seek support from other children experiencing similar circumstances. New children are welcome each session. This group is held at JSSA, 3018 Javier Road, Fairfax and is offered at $25 per session. The group meets twice monthly on Wednesdays from February 25 – June 3 at 7:00 pm. Pre-registration is required to attend. For more information or to register, please call 703-896-7557.

  • Deaf Adults Relationship Therapy Group

This eight session group is for adults 25+ to share joys and sorrows, hopes and fears, coping mechanisms, and strategies for improving relationships. This group is held at JSSA, 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville and is offered at $75 per session. (May be insurance reimbursable) The group meets from February 4 – March 25 at 5:00 pm.   • “Going Places!” Clubs for Teens, Young Adults and Adults 27+ (JCCNV & JSSA)

Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) and the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) host social clubs for individuals diagnosed with a Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger’s syndrome and PDD-NOS). The clubs provide a variety of monthly social opportunities in a supportive environment with guidance from professionally trained staff who work with participants on improving social skills and their overall comfort in social situations. There will be a variety of monthly outings including parties, bowling, dinners, miniature golf and museum tours.   • Paul & Annetta Himmelfarb Foundation “Out and About!” Clubs for Teens (14-17)

This club is for teens diagnosed with a Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger’s syndrome and PDD-NOS). Participants will be encouraged to engage with their peers in a fun and stimulating environment. This group is held at JSSA, 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville and is offered at $30 per session.   • Suicide Grief Support Group

This ongoing bereavement support group is for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. This group meets every first and third Monday at JSSA, 6123 Montrose Road, Rockville.   • What’s Next? Support Group for Young Adults with Learning Disabilities

This co-ed support group for young adults 18+ with learning disabilities will address the emotional and social changes and challenges that occur as a natural sequence of growth and development. Focus will also be given to the increased freedom and responsibilities that accompany each stage of a person’s journey through life. This group is held at JSSA, 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville and is offered at no charge. The group will meet on February 17, March 10, April 21 and May 19 at 7:00 pm.
