Latest Heat Wave Kills 2 In MD, Bringing This Year's Total To 6
Two people have died in Maryland during last week's heat wave. This brings the total number of heat-related deaths this year to six.
MARYLAND — The oppressive heat wave that gripped the state last week has claimed the lives of two people, bringing the total number of heat-related deaths in 2019 to six, according to the Maryland Department of Health.
The latest victims were both over the age of 65, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said. One was a woman from Prince George's County and the other was a man from Frederick County. Their names, hometowns, and dates of death were not released.
The Maryland Department of Health published these findings, as well as other heat-related information, in a weekly surveillance report. The most recent report examines deaths and complaints in the state from July 16 to 22.

During that time, there were 726 heat-related complaints at emergency medical facilities — a majority coming from the 18 to 44 age group. The county with the most emergency department complaints was Baltimore.with more than 100. According to the report, there were more than 100 recorded complaints.
