ROCKVILLE, MD — A 29-year-old Rockville woman couldn't believe her eyes, when she discovered that the $30 Maryland Lottery ticket she'd just bought at 7-Elven during a coffee break was worth $50,000, according to a lottery release.

“I told my friend that I had $30 to spend there after I got my coffee,” she said. “It had been a long time since I had bought a Lottery ticket, so I asked him to pick out which ones to play. He pointed to this one.”

The cleaning service employee told lottery officials that's what led her to but the winning $2,000,000 Gold Rush scratch off ticket at the 7-Eleven #11667 located at 8900 Edmonston Road in College Park.

“I saw the $50,000 match but knew it couldn’t be real,” she said. “My friend said it was real, the scanner said it was real, but I knew it had to be a fake.”

Between alternating bouts of disbelief and excitement, the winning ticket holder had a hard time getting any sleep until she picked up her winnings at lottery headquarters.

“I have been so nervous about this. My mind just goes so fast, it won’t let me sleep," she said.

Since the game's debut in February, only one person has claimed one of the five top $2 million prizes and five of the eight $50,000 prizes remain to be claimed as well.

“Any single mom with a fistful of bills would see this as a miracle,” the Rockville winner said. “It is such a huge help.”
