Man in Wheelchair Dies Crossing Rockville Street

ROCKVILLE, MD — A man in a wheelchair died Sunday after he was hit by a car while trying to cross a Rockville street, say Montgomery County Police.

Detectives are investigating the fatal collision that occurred about 11 p.m. Sunday; the man died from his injuries at the hospital Sunday morning.

Investigators say the 57-year-old man was using a wheelchair to cross in the 600 block of East Gude Drive when he was struck by a 2011 Toyota Scion xB in the westbound lanes.

The pedestrian will be identified once family members have been notified, police said.

The driver involved in the collision is identified as David Alan Campbell, 29, of Rockville.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, including what the traffic signal showed at the time of the collision and whether the pedestrian was in the area of the crosswalk.
