MD State Trooper Injured In Collision Inside I-495 Work Zone On Monday Morning: Police

A Maryland State Trooper was hospitalized after a Mercedes SUV entered a I-495 work zone early Monday and struck the rear of his vehicle.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Maryland state trooper assigned to the College Park Barrack was hospitalized early Monday morning after his vehicle was stuck by a Mercedes SUV inside a work zone area of the Inner Loop of I-495, according to a release.

Officers from the Rockville Barrick responded around 4:30 a.m., for the report of a collision inside an I-495 work zone near University Boulevard in Montgomery County. The trooper was working traffic control with his emergency lights activated when he was struck by the SUV. He was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment, according to MSP.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the SUV, whom police identified as 31-year-old Anthony Bowser Washington, D.C., may have been impaired at the time of the collision. Police say that the trooper was inside his vehicle when the Mercedes entered the construction zone and struck the rear of the trooper's vehicle.

Bowser was transported to Suburban Hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to police. Charges are pending the completion of MSP's investigation and a subsequent consultation with Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. Investigators believe both speed and impairment may have been factors in the crash.
