Memorial Day 2016: What's Open, Closed In Rockville

Memorial Day 2016 in Rockville means outdoor pools will be open, and the Taste of Rockville and Hometown Holidays get under way.

ROCKVILLE, MD —Schools, city offices and libraries will be closed Monday, May 30 in Rockville for the Memorial Day.

Good news: outdoor pools open and you can graze your way through the Taste of Rockville event.

If you want to catch a parade, food galore and live music, Rockville will host its 28th annual Hometown Holidays music festival to mark the holiday with a ceremony and parade on Monday

The Taste of Rockville offers plenty of food from local restaurants, and runs from 2-10 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. Taste of Rockville opens at noon each day.

What’s Open, Closed, Limited Service?

Rockville City Hall and some city facilities will be closed Monday, May 30.

Recycling, yard waste and refuse collection will be suspended on May 30 and made one day later. Collection regularly made on Monday will be made on Tuesday; regularly scheduled Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday, and so on. The following Rockville facilities will be closed May 30:

  • Croydon Creek Nature Center.
  • Glenview Mansion, including the mansion’s art gallery.
  • Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers.
  • Rockville Senior Center.
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and box office. Tickets are always available at www.rockvillemd.gov/theatretix.

Outdoor Pool Opens

The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center’s indoor pool and fitness center will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The outdoor pools open at noon for family recreation swim. However, due to the city’s Memorial Day parade, access to Martins Lane and the center’s parking lot will be restricted until after noon. Parking fees at city-owned meters will be suspended for the day.

Here's a list of what's open, closed and has reduced hours on Memorial Day across the county, from Montgomery Community Media:

County Offices – closed.

Libraries – closed.

County Liquor stores – all county liquor stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Recreation – all indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities will be open; administrative offices, senior centers and community recreation centers will be closed.

Montgomery Parks – holiday scheduled available, here.

Ride On– Will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Metrorail –Will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Metrobus – Will operate on a Sunday schedule.

TRiPS Commuter Stores (Silver Spring and Friendship Heights) – closed.

Refuse/recycling pickup – no collection, all collections scheduled on or after the holiday will be made one day later in the week. Monday collections on Tuesday; Tuesday collections made on Wednesday; Wednesday collections on Thursday; Thursday collections on Friday; and Friday collections on Saturday.

The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station – closed.

Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – free.

MCPS Schools and Administrative Offices – closed

State offices and courts – closed.
