Montgomery County Council Election Results: Blair, Elrich Race Close
Democratic challenger David T. Blair was leading incumbent Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, but the race had started to tighten.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Maryland voters went to polls on Tuesday to vote in primary elections and races for Montgomery County Executive and County Council. Polls closed at 8 p.m. and officials have started to tally the returns, but races weren't called as of 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.
With 190 of 258 election day precincts reporting, the Democratic race for the Montgomery County Executive had started to tighten, with David T. Blair (24,387) maintaining a slight lead over incumbent Marc Elrich (23,822). They were trailed by fellow Democrats Hans Riemer (13,166) and Peter James (1,126).

In the Republican race for Montgomery County Executive, Reardon Sullivan was leading with 6,853 votes compared to opponent Shelly Skolnick's 3,959.

In the Democratic primary race for the at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council, voters got to vote for up to four candidates. As of 12:50 a.m., Evan Glass was leading with 37,940 votes. The next three candidates were Will Jawando (35,936), Gabe Albornoz (31,833), and Laurie-Anne Sayles (26,947).
The Republican race for the at-large seats was much tighter, with Christopher P. Fiotes and Dwight Patel going neck-in-neck. As of 12:50 a.m., Patel managed to narrowly climb ahead of Fiotes for the first time in the night, with 8,110 votes to Fiotes' 8,105 votes. Leonard Lieber's tally stood at 7,865.
Election officials closed the lines to vote Tuesday at 8 p.m. Anybody in line by that time is allowed to vote. Polling locations will close when everybody in line has voted.
Maryland will only release the results for statewide races when every polling place in the state has closed. That means there are not yet any results available in the governor's race.

Along with County Council, statewide races were on the ballot, including those for governor, comptroller and attorney general. Other Montgomery County races on the ballot were for school board and sheriff.
In Montgomery County, a County Council district means a geographic area in which an elected member of the council must live. In Montgomery County, there are seven district members and three at-large members of the council.
When Will The Results Be Certified?
The Maryland State Board of Elections expects to certify the final results during the week of Aug. 8. Officials will announce the unofficial early voting and election day results on July 19, but they still have to count the mail-in, dropbox and provisional ballots.

State law says these tallies must start and end on specific dates after election day. That means the final and official results will come a few weeks after voters hit the polls.
