New Year's Eve Bank Robber Arrested: Police
Investigators say DNA evidence at the bank led them to a Silver Spring man, who was arrested last week.

A Silver Spring man is in jail for a New Year’s Eve bank robbery after authorities say they found his DNA at the scene.
Detectives from Montgomery County Police arrested Cortez Tyrone Mason, 31, of the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on May 7 for the robbery of a TD Bank in Silver Spring.

On Dec. 31, 2014, at about 10:12 a.m., a suspect entered the TD Bank at 3132 Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring and passed a note to the teller announcing the robbery. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank and fled toward the Briggs Chaney Shopping Center.
Using DNA evidence left by the suspect at the scene, detectives developed Cortez Tyrone Mason as the suspect in the bank robbery. On April 22, an arrest warrant was obtained for Mason and on May 7 he was arrested without incident.

Mason was charged with one count of robbery and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
