Police Investigate Alcohol's Role in Crash that Injured Two Boys

One boy suffered life-threatening injuries in Saturday night's collision in Gaithersburg, police say.

A woman reportedly driving the wrong way Saturday night when she crashed – seriously injuring two boys in her car – may have been drinking, Montgomery County Police say.

Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel were called about 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the area of Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

Police say a 2004 Infiniti with three occupants was northbound in the southbound lanes of Muddy Branch Road when it struck a traffic island at the intersection of West Diamond Avenue.

A 6-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while an 8-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, identified as Ana C. Martinez De Sanchez, 28, of the 17000 block of Downing Street in Gaithersburg, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating alcohol caused the crash.
