A Potomac middle school English teacher has died after suffering a medical emergency during class.

POTOMAC, MD — A Potomac middle school teacher has died after suffering a medical emergency during class. English teacher Deanna Perucci was teaching students at Herbert Hoover Middle School when she collapsed on Thursday, Montgomery County Spokesman Derek Turner said. School officials did not release specifics about the medical emergency.

In a letter to parents, Principal Dr. YM Kim described Perucci as a kind and wonderful teacher. It was her first year teaching in the Montgomery County Public School system, Turner said.

"For those of you who knew Ms. Perucci, we ask that you remember and celebrate her kindness
and commitment to others, specifically to children," Kim said. "She was a wonderful teacher that loved teaching at Hoover and cared deeply for our students."
