Red Line Cars Decouple, Strand Passengers Near Twinbrook Station

Metro officials say cars on the Red Line decoupled at about 9:05 a.m. Monday, which stranded passengers near the Twinbrook Station.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Two Red Line train cars separated near the Twinbrook metro station in Rockville Monday morning with passengers aboard. The train pulled away from the station and multiple cars were left behind, various news outlets report.

A spokesman told The Washington Post that the cars decoupled at about 9:05 a.m. near the Twinbrook metro station as the train headed toward the Shady Grove station.

The Metro's safety system stopped the train when the cars separated. Officials are looking into how the accident occurred.

Fox 5 is reporting that an equipment malfunction caused the train to separate.

Passengers were offloaded at the time of the accident and no one was injured. Normal service resumed at around 10:30 a.m.
