Road Rage Beating of Elderly Driver Ends With Prison Term

A 26-year-old Gaithersburg man will go to prison for beating an elderly driver so severely his brain bled.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Gaithersburg man who pulled an elderly Olney man out of his car window and beat him so severely he suffered brain damage was sentenced to six years in prison.

Ryan Wallace, 26, of Gaithersburg was sentenced Thursday for second-degree assault in the May 7, 2015, beating that required his victim, Arthur Walker, 75, of Olney, to re-learn how to walk, talk and write his name. In addition to the prison sentence, Wallace was ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution.

Walker was driving home from Rockville when a pickup truck driven by Wallace tailgated him, then cut in front of Walker and sped by. Prosecutors say Walker yelled at Wallace, who then waited for the older driver to pass him and chased him for about eight miles.

At the intersection of Bowie Mill Road and Rt. 108 in Olney, Wallace got out of his truck, pulled Walker out of his vehicle's window, and beat him.
