Rockville Bicyclist Dies After Collision With SUV

ROCKVILLE, MD — Police are investigating what led to a crash between a bicycle and an SUV that killed a Rockville man Monday night.

Montgomery County Police say bicyclist Frank Lawrence Towers, 19, of the 13100 block of Beaver Terrace in Rockville died in the accident. The collision happened about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Viers Mill Road and Turkey Branch Parkway.

Investigators say Towers was crossing westbound Viers Mill Road from the median strip near a crosswalk. A 2000 Toyota 4Runner driven by Juan Francisco Orellana, 39, of Sandy Spring was westbound on Viers Mill Road near Turkey Branch Parkway when the SUV and bicycle collided.

Towers was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Investigators ask anyone who saw the crash to call 240-773- 6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
