ROCKVILLE, MD — Unofficial results from the Nov. 5 election show that Bridget Donnell Newton has been reelected as mayor of Rockville, defeating challenger Virginia D. Onley.

City officials say 12,213 voters cast ballots at the polls, out of more than 38,000 registered voters. The polls closed 8 p.m. on Tuesday; however, residents waited more than five hours to learn the results — partially because of this year's record turnout (nearly double that of Rockville's 2015 election), Bethesda Beat reports.
