Rockville Council Member Resigns After Winning MD Election

Rockville City Council member Julie Palakovich Carr will step down on Jan. 8 to serve in the Maryland House of Delegates.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Democrat Julie Palakovich Carr announced Thursday that she has resigned her post as Rockville City Council member to represent her constituents in the Maryland House of Delegates. The announcement comes two day after Palakovich Carr won her District 17 race. She will be sworn into her office in Annapolis on Jan. 9.

“It has been a great honor to represent the people of Rockville on the City Council,” Palakovich Carr said. “I will take everything I’ve learned in City Hall to Annapolis to represent the people of District 17.”

Through a special appointment process, the mayor and remaining city council members will decide who will fill Palakovich Carr’s vacated seat. The mayor and council are considering amendments to the city code that would institute a process to fill vacated seats. The City of Rockville will be holding public hearings on the proposed amendments at 111 Maryland Ave on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
