Rockville Driver May Have Caused Fatal Crash: Police

No charges have been filed in the four-vehicle accident that killed an Adamstown woman.

A Rockville man was driving a pickup truck involved in a fatal four-vehicle crash Monday morning in the 20700 block of Darnestown Road (Route 28), police say.

Montgomery County Police say the Beallsville area crash happened about 7:39 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Kenneth Turner Bynaker Jr., 19, of the 13700 block of Travilah Road in Rockville was westbound in the 20700 block of Darnestown Road. At the same time, a 2009 Subaru Forester driven by Amy Burdette Riggs, 34, of the 2700 block of John Mills Road in Adamstown was traveling east on Darnestown Road.

Authorities say they are still investigating why Bynaker’s pickup reportedly crossed into the eastbound lane of Darnestown Road and struck Riggs’ SUV head-on. The pickup then rolled several times, striking an eastbound 2014 Kia Sorento driven by Christine Marie Goldstein, 49, of Frederick before coming to rest. A 2009 gray Subaru Forester driven by Sean Jason Smith, 41, of Leesburg, VA, was struck by flying debris during the crash. He was not hurt.

Riggs was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to police.

Bynaker was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Goldstein was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit asks anyone with information about the crash to call the unit at 240-773-6620.

No charges have been filed.
