ROCKVILLE, MD — A lucky chance led a Montgomery County man to winning a $50,000 third-tier prize in last Saturday's Powerball drawing, according to a Maryland Lottery release. The man called the win “a combination of right place, right time and just the craziest of coincidences.”

Last week, the Rockville resident was out running errands for his son when he noticed the sign for Talbott Beer & Wine, located at 1071 Rockville Pike in Rockville.

A regular Powerball player, the man told lottery officials that he'd already purchased several tickets for the Feb. 11 drawing but decided to stop at the store and buy one more.

Then, on Sunday morning, when the man checked his ticket, he realized he'd matched enough numbers to win the $50,000 third-tier prize. The only thing was he didn't recognize where the ticket came from.

“At first, I couldn’t figure out what or where Talbott’s was, what I was doing there," he said, in the release. "I’d assumed the ticket was from one of my regular locations. If not for that errand, this never would have happened."

The winning Powerball ticket came at a fortuitous time for the man and his family.

“There’s a lot going on with my family right now, with our children,” he told lottery officials. “This is an incredible blessing for us. We’ll be able to support them now in ways that would have been difficult before this happened.”
