Rockville Man Recognized For Saving Fellow Bus Passenger's Life
A Montgomery County resident who performed CPR on a fellow bus passenger last month was recently honored for his life-saving work.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Rockville man who performed CPR on a fellow bus passenger was honored last week for his life-saving work.
Montgomery County police officers presented Alexander Vasilenko with the Commander's Certificate of Appreciation at a ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11.
Ahead of the ceremony, police provided details of the terrifying medical emergency that unfolded on Oct. 3.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., 4th District Officer Matthew Runkles was driving in his police cruiser on Randolph Road when he was flagged down by a Metro bus driver. The driver told Runkles that there was an unconscious man on the bus.
When Runkles got on the bus, Vasilenko was performing CPR on the 24-year-old passenger. Runkles took over performing CPR while Sgt. Sunyoung Kim used her automated external defibrillator (AED) to save his life.

The man was taken to the hospital and has since been released, police said.
