Rockville Man's $50K Scratch-Off Win Will Buy House
A Rockville maintenance technician will use the $50,000 he won from the Maryland Lottery as down payment on a house.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A maintenance technician from Rockville cleaned up with the Maryland Lottery by winning $50,000 playing a 20x The Cash scratch-off, according to a news release. At the end of an eight-hour overnight shift, the 51-year-old stopped at his local Aspen Shell to pick up a pack of cigarettes before going home. While there, he decided to buy a few scratch-offs, too, and selected several from the Multiplier family of instant tickets.
The Montgomery County man decided to wait until he got home to scratch off his tickets. After scratching a few 5x The Cash and 10x the Cash scratch-offs, he noticed that he did not win.
“When I started scratching the 20x The Cash scratch-off, I immediately knew I was a big winner,” he told Lottery officials. “The top $50,000 prize was the first monetary increment that appeared. When I saw all of the zeros I said ‘Whoa!’ to myself.”

The avid scratch-off player loves playing Multiplier instant tickets. Last year he won $1,000 on a 10x The Cash scratch-off.
“I was surprised when I won that $1,000 on the 10x The Cash ticket, but now I’m just in complete shock from winning this $50,000 on the 20x The Cash one,” he said.

He told Lottery officials that he’s putting his winnings into his savings account until he’s ready to use it as a down payment on a home.
For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, Aspen Shell located at 4101 Aspen Hill Road in Rockville will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
